The 1940s was a dramatic time. The first half of the decade was spent in a world war, and the second half was spent dealing with the consequences. That being said, people didn’t want to be all-consumed by the war. Although there was plenty of tragedy and rationing, people still wanted to enjoy their lives. One popular way to do that was to go to the movies. Throughout the 1940s, Hollywood continued to produce wildly successful movies like Citizen Kane (1941), Casablanca (1942), and Gilda (1946). Hollywood also gave life to wildly successful movie stars ranging from leading men like Humphrey Bogart and Cary Grant to leading ladies like Gene Tierny and Joan Fontaine.
