K-Pop Group BTS Allowed to Perform as a Group While Serving in the Military

The members of the popular K-pop band BTS will be allowed to perform during their military service, the South Korean Defense Ministry has announced. The Korean Times reports that the members are only allowed to do so in the case of special events.

A spokesperson of the Defense Ministry has said that the military allows the BTS members to perform at events of national importance. It is not clear what kind of events those are.

Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup did say earlier that BTS members are allowed to travel abroad to perform, even if the shows are during their time of duty.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Jin, the oldest member of BTS, will soon begin his military service. He is the first of the seven-member group to enlist.

South Korea still has active military service because the country is officially still at war with North Korea. Therefore, all men between the ages of 18 and 28 must serve between 18 and 21 months in the military.

Who are the members of BTS?

The Korean boy group BTS consists of seven singers and dancers. Formed in 2013, the group has released six albums in both Korean and Japanese languages. BTS is considered one of the most popular K-pop acts out there.
