Even celebrities have to pay the bills, and sometimes that means working a normal job. More often than not, celebs will find themselves in a lifestyle they never truly wanted, not all of them take well to the no privacy thing. Just as, one often gets tired of a certain career. So too, some of our icons have decided on alternative routes. Check out these former celebs, who left the spotlight and began working at an “average joe” job. Let's begin...

Tony Danza Taught English

During the years 2009 until 2010, Tony Danza's fans were left to miss him and wonder where he is whilst he took a sabbatical from acting. He decided to become an English teacher Danza taught a 10th grade English class, in a Northeast Philadelphia High School. The actor was smart enough to organize a reality TV show to follow him throughout his journey called "Teach". The show aired seven emotionally moving episodes about teaching. Danza has said, “The emotional tug of war that goes on is just unbelievable, and then in the midst of that if you feel that the system doesn’t support you, that your job is at risk, then it’s a very, very difficult situation to be in.”

Mara Wilson Is A Writer

To this day, one of the best feel-good movies in the world, is Matilda. A heart tugging story about a girl who is well beyond her years in maturity and teleportation abilities.  Mara Wilson also went on to appear in productions such as Mrs.Doubtfire. However, our favorite 90's child star has decided to take a different route. She decided to focus on her writing and since written for Cracked.com and published a book in 2016, called "Where Am I Now?": True Stories of Girlhood and Accidental Fame. Regardless of this, We don't think she will ever be able to shake off her claim to fame as Mrs. Honey's favorite student.

Jeff Cohen Is An Attorney

Maybe you remember Jeff Cohen played who played Chunk in the 1985 classic, The Goonies. His final acting role was alongside alongside Peter Scolari in the TV movie "Perfect Harmony". which was was in the year 1991. As he puts it “puberty hit and forced Cohen into early retirement.” However, acting was not the only career path he had in mind. Cohen decided to go to law school. After graduating, he founded Cohen & Gardner, LLP. That's a little more serious than acting don't you think?

Brittany Ashton Holmes Is A Barista

You remember little, adorable Darla from The Little Rascals? Well here she is, Brittany Ashton. Although she was loved by anyone who was a fan of the show, she left Hollywood and was raised through a normal childhood. If you'd like to pay little Darla a visit, she now works at Starbucks as a barista. Her income is used to fund her tuition as she is also studying a political science degree. Howver, don't find yourself worrying about Brittany, she is absolutely content with where her life is and explains that  “I was actress when I was little and did this movie called Little Rascals. It’s like really embarrassing to watch, and I don’t want to act anymore.”

Vanilla Ice Was a Real Estate Investor

Vanilla Ice, a legend from the 90's. However, when people got tired of buying his classic album. The hip-hop star took a liking to the real estate market. Vanilla Ice would buy a property, revamp it and sell it. He once said “When ‘Ice, Ice Baby’ was selling a million records a day, I bought several properties… then, a few years later, I took a break from touring, saw that my properties had cobwebs, so I sold them, and to my surprise, I made a huge profit.” You would never think this gangsta rapper would be such a good business man but low and behold, he seems to be doing great.

Chris Owen Serves Sushi

Although it seemed like that American Pie phase would last forever, it definitely didn't for Chris Owen, who is remembered for his role as The Sherminator. But fear not, He has not hung up his acting gloves completely. However, it was not enough to sustain the actor fully and he needed something else on the side. He has supposedly became a waiter at a sushi restaurant. However, he still lives in California and has a few thousand followers on his social media accounts. We hope The Sherminator will make a comeback.

Josh Saviano Is A Lawyer

This former actor did not have his heart set on film from the start. He had studied political science at Yale University and went to law school after that! He then graduated in 2003. Kevin Arnold’s best friend, Paul Pfeiffer, was played by Josh Saviano. After The Wonder Years, Saviano did not see too much action in Hollywood. He is now a practicing attorney, living with his wife (who is also a lawyer), and child, in New York. Once this guy had been in a few films and a couple of commercials, he'd had enough and went on to lead a totally different life.

Frankie Muniz Worked As A Racecar Driver And Rock Drummer

Frankie Muniz was a child star in the late 90s and early 2000s, landing lead roles in movies such as Big Fat Liar and My Dog Skip, and the hit TV show, Malcolm in the Middle. However, in 2004, he began racing cars and signed a 2-year deal with Jensen Motorsport. He continues to race professionally today. Muniz also had a short stint as a drummer for Kingsfoil, a pop-rock group in Pennsylvania. As shocked as we are, good old Agent Cody Banks has left the film industry and it seems to be for good. We eagerly await your return Frankie!

Ali Macgraw Is A Yoga Instructor

This actress and model is also an animal rights activist. Ali Macgraw landed her first role in the film "Goodbye". The production was a huge success and gave her more attention that she could ever imagine. Her memorable performance got her nominated for an award as best actress, she then went on to win a Golden Globe Award. A few years ago, the successful model and actress decided to explore a career that involved less cameras. Macgraw became a yoga instructor. The former actress explained that yoga has always been something she was passionate about and decided that acting was no longer for her. Namastay Ali.

Kimora Lee Simmons Is A Youth Advocacy Board Member

Kimora Lee Simmons is well known for her impact made is the fashion world. She began modeling at the young age of 14 and never stopped since. The model climbed the ladder until she reached fashion label founder and President. However, after even exploring her career as a reality TV star, the fashionista still felt the need to give back. Thus, she now holds a position on the board of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation (RPAF). According to their website, RPAF “is dedicated to providing inner-city youth across New York City with significant exposure to the arts, as well as to supporting emerging artists with exhibition opportunities.” She's far from the runway, but shes taken an admirable route instead.

Michael Maronna Is An Electrician

Calling on all our 90's babies! Remember this guy from all your favorite Nickelodeon TV Shows? Let us help you jog your memory..."The Adventures of Pete and Pete". Michael Maronna starred as Big Pete Wrigley. To everyone's disappointment, Maronna never returned to the TV screen and decided to put his hands to work and become an electrician. If you're ever in Hollywood and find yourself needing an electrician, you can give good ol' Michael Maronna a call. He has worked on the productions of Sex and the City, Notorious, Nurse Jackie and Elementary. We were all just shocked to learn he has become an electrician (maybe that was a bad joke).

Kirk Cameron Preaches As A Minister

You may recognize this handsome fella from the ABC sitcom, “Growing pains”. Kirk Cameron was once Mike Seaver. However, he is now well known by a more religious community. After the show was canceled, the star began to explore his Christianity in more depth. You won’t find Cameron on your TV screen anymore, you’re more likely to find him in a church being the religious minister that he is. He teaches and specializes in Evangelism. Kirk and his long-time partner, Ray Comfort, founded the ministry of the Way of the Master. Although the former star took a different route, he hasn’t hung up his acting gloves completely. Kirk Cameron is the host on the weekly TV show for the Ministry.

Nikki Blonsky Works With Hairspray

Good Morning Baltimore!  After landing the lead role as Tracy, in the popular musical, "Hairspray", it was not long before Nikki Blonsky became the talk of the town. For a while, all anybody was talking about was the actresses gripping performance through singing, acting and dancing. Surprisingly, after this production, Blonsky only landed a few random small parts in some random productions. Namingly, "Geography Club" and "Pup Star". However, the singer/actress found that she had too much time in the spaces between her auditions and roles.  Thus, she decided to get her cosmetology license. She now works part-time as a hairstylist and make-up artist, in her hometown of Great Neck, New York. Well, the role as a stylist certainly suits her. Who could forget that big, perfect, hairsprayed hair.

Peter Ostrum Is A Veterinarian

Peter Ostrum was best known for his role as little Charlie, Willy Wonka's favorite candidate in the classic novel, "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory". However, even though the film was loved by everyone who saw it, Ostrum never took on another role in any other film. Don't you worry, he has managed to make a decent life for himself outside the chocolate factory. He made the decision to move to upstate New York and go to veterinary school. He is still a practicing veterinarian, which is a far stretch from what we expected!

If you don't live under a rock, then you know the gorgeous Aaron Samuel's from the hit chick-flick "Mean Girls" who's "hair looks sexy push-back". After that classic, this actor could have gotten a role in any movie he wanted but to everyone's dismay, the actor chose a very different route.  Jonathan Bennett has moved on from his Mean Girls days and is now a spin class instructor. He was instructing at Flywheels is Los Angeles. We know girls love to exercise but we bet that's not why they are going to this Spin Class ;)

Steven Seagal Served As Deputy Sheriff

Steven Seagal began his working life as a black belt in aikido, whatever that is, in his hometown Michigan. He then decided to move to Los Angeles, California where he planned to work the same job. However, not long after his move, Seagal made his acting debut in the year 1991, from the film, "Above The Law". H e went on to star in many other movies, he produced movies, this guy can pretty much do it all. However, you won't find him staring in any particular film anytime soon. Not that he chose a full- time alternative career but he does a lot more behind-the-scene work now. He even wrote a book if you ever get bored.

Gary Coleman Worked As A Security Guard

Ever heard the saying "dynamite comes in small packages"? Well if you haven't, this story should help. Gary Coleman is well remembered as the 4 feet star, Arnold Jackson in the American sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes". Shockingly, he is now a security guard and you definitely do not want to mess with him. In the year 1998, he was on duty when a fan approached him for his autograph. However, he refused and a terrible fight broke out. Coleman punched the woman multiple times in the face and was thus suspended for a year.

Charlie Korsmo Became A Lawyer, Activist & Professor

During the 90's, Charlie Kosmo was a well known child star. He featured in multiple productions and at a stage, it seemed like we would never stop seeing him popping up on our screens. He is best known for his role in the production, "Hook", where he had the privilege of acting alongside Robin Williams. Surprisingly, the former child-star decided he had enough of Hollywood and wanted to explore a different career. He studied law and then graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then received his Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School in 2006. He now is an Assistant Professor of Law. Go figure!

Macaulay Culkin Is A Musician

If you had any sort of childhood, then you will know that the Home Alone movies were a weekend necessity back in the day. At the tender age of 10, Macaulay Culkin had already become a popular child star and he didn't stop there! This kid went on to feature in several other films. However, by the time it was 1994, He decided to take a break. Since then, the former child star has never returned to the screens since. Culkin chose to explore his musical side and that is the career he has chosen. It all began in 2012, Culkin played the kazoo in The Pizza Underground, a comedy rock group. There was a time where it was impossible for  Jim Carey, the Canadian-American comedian, to not be on your television screen. The actor was known for his unique goofiness in all his hit films such as "Dumb Dumb and Dumber", "Fun With Dick And Jane", or "Yes Man. However Jim has recently taken on a much more serious persona and explore his 'artistic career'. He is known not to do things by halves, and when it comes to his art he has the work to prove so. His art sells at a minimum of 10,000 dollars and many celebs are fans of his work, like Lebron James for example. We would be lying if we didn't say we miss his punch lines!

Michael Schoeffling Makes Furniture

You remember don't remember Jake Ryan? Of course, you do, how could anyone forget such a hottie? For a while, Sixteen Candles was the talk of the town and it resulted in him landing a few more roles after that. In the year 1991, Ryan chose to hang up his gloves and leave Hollywood. The former actor went to live in Virginia where him and his model wife could quietly raise their children. Him and his wife, shortly after got a divorce. Now Jake has taken a liking to working with his hands and creates handmade furniture and even owns his own woodworking shop.

Mackenzie Rosman Is A Philanthropist

In 2006, Viewers sat on their couches whilst they eagerly awaited the next episode of 7th Heaven. It was the year 2007 that everyone got their heart broken when the show was cancelled and 'Ruthie Camden' became a thing of the past. Following that, Rosman received a few random roles here and there in both series and movies.  In contrast, she decided to peruse a career with more meaning to her. She does a great deal of philanthropy work and is the National Chairman for CureFinders, a school fundraising program to help fund the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis.

Rebecca Ritters Became A Journalist

Well well well, if it isn't little "button", the only child of Julie and Philip Martin, in the popular show "Neighbors" where Hannah Martin stole our hearts. Rabecca Ritters and her crooked teeth were a favorite for fans of the show. Once the show had been wrapped up, she went on to appear in some random productions. However, she received a degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Melbourne. She was later offered a position as a news and current affairs producer for the Australian Broadcasting Company. Today, she works as a producer for Deutsche Welle, in Berlin.

Ariana Richards Is A Painter

Is there anyone who didn't love the popular Blockbuster film "Jurassic Park"? Well even if you didn't, you definitely heard about it. Ariana Richards is one of the lucky stars to feature in this film. Moreover, she then landed herself a role in the sequel, as Lex Murphy in The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The year 2001 was the drop off point for this actress. However, she then surprised us with a random comeback in 2013 and shortly decided that she had exhausted her position in this career. She went on to become a painter and prefers her life with an empty canvas. She enjoys art and even went to Skidmore College. Not long after, she graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and Drama.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Is A Start-Up Founder

Michelle Gellar used to be known as the girl next door and now she really is, an average neighbor next door. This former-actresses big break came in 1993 when she played Kendall Hart in the well known, American soapy "All My Children". However, she is best known as "Buffy The Vampire Slayer". Buffy challenged the stereotype of the helpless horror movie female victim. This resulted in her becoming a strong inspiration to girls everywhere. In 2015, Gellar is also the co-founder of Foodstirs, a food-crafting startup that sells baking kits for kids. She is also set to release a cookbook in 2017.

Andrea Barber Is An University Officer

The picture on the left is a girl who landed roles in all the best 90's series at the time. Andrea Barber featured in the 90's sitcom, Full House, as D.J.'s best friend, Kimmy Gibler. Following that, she then landed a regular role on the soap opera, Days of Our Lives. When these shows were wrapped up, Barber went on to graduate from Whittier College with an English Degree, and then received her Master of Arts in Women’s Studied from the University of York in the United Kingdom. She then returned to Whittier to work in its Office of International programs. However, Barber did return for the Netflix reboot Fuller House.

Maia Brewton Is A Lawyer

Now here's a name you probably haven't heard in a while. Remember Maia Brewton from "Parker Lewis Can't Lose?" or the adorable but naughty kid in "Adventures in Babysitting" who acted next to the one and only, Elisabeth Shue. Brewton made the decision to study theater at Yale University. She was also bar tending on the side. However, when she realized that cocktails weren't really her thing, she decided to go to Law School and is now a successful attorney. Who would've thought!

Jason Zimbler Is A Software Designer

Jason Zimbler is best remembered as the Clarissa's little annoying brother in the hit 90's TV series "Clarissa Explains It All". Whilst Melissa Joan Hart is still well known in Hollywood, Zimbler decided on a different lifestyle. Once the show had come to an end, he decided to go study at the University of Notre Dame. Following that, he returned to Hollywood, only this time to be behind the camera instead. He is now a software designer for HBO.

Hank Aaron Owns A Car Dealership

If you're a baseball fan, then you definitely remember Hank Aaron and his international reign when he knocked Babe Ruth's homerun out the park! For a while, Aaron and his bat were the talk of the town. However, after he retired, he continues to work with Atlanta Braves whilst also exploring other career ideas. He went on to open Hank Aaron BMW dealership in Georgia. If you wish to see your childhood baseball star again, all you need to do is buy a car. Rumor has it, that every car that is sold, comes with an autographed baseball.  He also worked as the corporate vice president of community relations for TBS.

Dylan & Blake Tuomy-Wilhoit Are Working Separately

These are the second lot of actors to appear on our list from the hit sitcom, "Full House". Blake and Dylan Wilhoit-Tuomy performed as the twin sons of Uncle Jesse and Aunty Becky, Alex and Nicky. However, when the two grew up they made the decision to go their separate ways, work wise. Nicky remained in the TV business but only behind the camera, as a sound technician. Whilst Blake is a firefighter in Atlanta! But fear not, if you wish to see these former stars again, they made an appearance in the Netflix Full House reboot Fuller House.

Kevin Jonas Is An App Entrepreneur

You may remember Kevin Jonas as the oldest but not the hottest Jonas Brother in the pop boy band, The Jonas Brothers. In the year 2005, the Jonas Brothers were all anyone could talk about and their fans were devastated when they learned the brothers had decided to split in 2013. Kevin went on to do something a little bit different than singing with his brothers. He created and launched an application which basically gives you the location and the contact details of the best rated restaurants near you. The app is called Yood and apparently is doing very well.  He also dabbled in construction for some time. In 2014, he appeared on an episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey to help build Kathy Wakile’s home. Other than that, you're probably better off becoming a fan of another Jonas brother.

Jack Gleeson Is A Student

Calling on all our Game Of Thrones fans! Let's be honest, you ether love it or you hate it. Jack Gleeson performed as the character everyone despised, King Joffrey, the King of Westeros who just seemed to make everyone's life harder. Since the king was killed off the show, Gleeson seems to be hiding from the limelight. The actor went on to study philosophy and theology at Trinity College in Dublin. However, if you feel like you need to see him again, he sometimes appears at conventions to show his appreciation to fans.

Danny Lloyd Is A Biology Teacher

This is a strange one. Danny Lloyd became a well known child star in horror movies. Which is strange considering most adults could never watch the film, let alone be in it. He featured in Stanley Kubrick’s production, "The Shining". In the extras section of the DVD, Danny explained that he truly did not even realize he was filming a horror movie. He thought the movie was about a family who lived in a hotel. Once Danny decided to leave acting as a career, he went on to pursue a different life. He now goes by Professor Lloyd, in biology at a community college in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

Leana Creel Is A Production Company CEO

In 1980, Leana Creel began her career in acting with her identical sisters, Joy and Monica. The sisters featured in films like  “The Wonderful World of Disney: Parent Trap III” and “Parent Trap: Hawaiian Honeymoon.” After appearing on an episode of “Beverly Hills, 90210”, Leana was able to land her first big solo break as Tori on “Saved by the Bell”. Today, Creel is the founder and CEO of Creel Studio. According to the company’s website “Creel Studio is a full service photography and video production company that specializes in food, travel and lifestyle content.”

Cameron Diaz Is Just Taking A Break

Don't worry, we were also heartbroken to learn that America's sweetheart has had enough of us. Cameron Diaz has featured in multiple films alongside influential figures in all of them. However, the last movie she appeared in was the musical, "Annie" in 2014. She has since been trying to “make herself whole.” She appeared on a Goop Wellness Summit panel in June 2017, and said, “I just went, ‘I can’t really say who I am to myself.’ Which is a hard thing to face up to.” She has not announced any upcoming projects. We hope the blonde bombshell will return to our screens, where she belongs.

George Forman Designs Grills

George Forman is not the first athlete to become a spokesman for some sort of health benefit. This two-time boxing heavyweight champion even won a gold medal in the Olympics, back in his prime. After retiring for the second time, he was offered a position he couldn't refuse. At the time, there was a fat-reducing grill who saw Forman as a perfect candidate to be the spokesman of the appliance. Forman believed that his success came from eating healthily thus he believed in the product too. Not only was he the face of the product, but he even gave advice on the designs. Today, the George Foreman Grill has sold over 100 million units worldwide.

Danielle Fishel Is A Reporter

This little sweetheart won't appear on your television as much as she used to. However, she is still around. Danielle Fishel gained recognition when she performed as Topanga on the TV series "Boy Meets World". She then went on to appear in the spin-off series "Girl Meets World". Fishel has never had a problem being loved by all those who saw her work. Thus is makes sense that she tourned to journalism. She has been a host on Style Network’s The Dish, as well as is a resident reporter for PopSugar (a lifestyle content platform targeted towards women 18-34).

Sasha Obama Is A Student

The youngest daughter of the former U.S. President Barack Obama is taking no advantage of her fathers' title. Sasha Obama is currently a student. It was reported that she was absent from her fathers farewell address as she had an exam the very next day and needed to study. It is a wonder how a girl with so much family history and recognition can attend school like a normal student. However, every day she goes to Sidwell Friends School as a junior. Sasha will continue her schooling in Washington D.C. until she graduated in 2019.

Nick Offerman Is An Amazing Woodworker

Nick Offerman gained world-wide recognition from his role as Ron Swanson in “Parks and Recreation”. Ron Swanson’s character is a loyal bacon lover, a gentleman and an excellent woodworker. Now here comes the twist... Nick Offerman is just as good a woodworker in real life, as he pretends to be in movies. Nick would say he’s ‘fair to middling at best’ but the products of his effort has proven to be a whole lot better than that. For 12 years Nick has run the succesful, Offerman Woodshop in East LA. Nick ,alongside a small team of talented craftsmen who are just as passionate about wood as Nick, create everything you could think of that involves wood.

Danny Tamberelli Is A Musician

Although little Pete used to appear in many different productions, he is a man of many talents and it doesn't even stop there. He is a graduate of Hampshire College, culminating in a BA in Interdisciplinary Arts focusing on music performance and booking management. Tamberelli is the bassist and vocalist for the rock band ‘Jounce’, formed in Northern New Jersey. He also was the bassist for the folk/pop band ‘Every Good Boy’. He made a guest appearance in the comedy podcast “The Comedy Button”, as well as an episode of the podcast “The Indoor Kids”. Tamberelli lends is the voice and inspiration of Jimmy De Santa in Grand Theft Auto V. In 2014, he started a podcast with former “The Adventures of Pete and Pete” co-star Michael Maronna.

Susan Boyle Applied To Be A Cashier

An iconic moment in music history is when Susan Boyle sang "I Dreamed a Dream" on the hit show, Britain's Got Talent. Although the singer did not win first prize, she still went on to become a huge success. Since her appearance in the vocalist competing show, Susan went on to release 7 studio albums. She surprised all her fans when she drew quite the speculation when it was reported that she had applied to be a cashier at a betting shop in her hometown. She told the London Evening Standard, “I just went in on the off-chance. It was kind of a desire to be normal. And it was a quiet period. I just got panicky (about fame). But I wouldn’t want to scrap the job I already have (music). I absolutely love it.”

Freddie Prinze Jr. Is A Chef

Freddie Prinze Jr. makes an appearance in all your old-time classic teenage movies. The former actor was a Hollywood heartthrob in the 90's. You'll see him in flicks like She’s All That and I Know What You Did Last Summer. I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is also where he met his future wife, and also huge 90s star, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Both him and his wife have since been keeping a low profile whilst being busy with other ventures. Freddie loves cooking, and released his first cookbook in 2016. The book contains 75 recipes and stories by the actor.

Lisa Jakub Is A Writing Teacher

This former child star, Lisa Jakub is known for her appearance in “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “Independence Day”. Her most recent appearance was in 2000, in a production called “Double Frame”. Following that, the artist decided to take a break and move out of Hollywood. Today, she is a happily retired actor, along with being an author, speaker, writing teacher, and yoga teacher.

Lark Voorhies Is A Book Publisher

Lark Voorhies can be remembered for her part as Lisa Turtle, a rich girl on the TV sitcom “Saved By The Bell”, from 1989-1993. This role as Lisa Turtle got her six Young Artist Award nominations! Once the hype of the show began to die down, the actress decided to explore her musical side. When that didn't work out, Lark turned to writing. Since 2010, she has written and published 3 books: Reciprocity, Trek of the Cheshire, and A True Light.

Rick Moranis Is A Comedic Singer

Every movie needs a nerd, and most of the old ones feature Rick Moranis. You can find him in classics like  “Ghostbuster”, “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”, “Little Shop of Horrors”, and “Little Giants”. Sadly, his wife passed away and since then the actor hasn't wanted anything to do with the acting business. However, he still is connected to his creative roots and has released a few well known comedy albums. He was even a nominee for the Grammy for Best Comedy Album.

Jon Gosselin Worked As A Line Cook & DJ

It is sort of typical that we have yet another reality TV star who's show came to an end before they had gotten enough attention. You remember Jon & Kate Plus 8? The reality TV show that followed the lives of Jon, Kate and their sextuplets. After him and Kate got divorced and the show was cancelled, Jon went on to become a DJ. If you want to check out one of his sets, he has a permanent slot in Building 24, a nightclub in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. However, that ain't the only thing this "mixologist"  can do, he also has a part-time job at TGI Friday's as a line cook. He only works a total of 8 hours per week, as it started with him just helping a friend. However, he claims to enjoy it and we're happy he's happy!
